A list of items I’ve come across recently that I found potentially useful, interesting, or just plain funny:
- Measurement Lab tools – Test for BitTorrent blocks, traffic shaping, and various other network issues.
- Rainbow Folders – Colour-code folder icons in Windows Explorer.
- How to fix a stuck pixel on an LCD Monitor (with video).
- Microsoft Volume Licensing Briefs – Guidance for licensing Microsoft software under a volume license agreement.
- Down for everyone or just me? – Check if a website is really down… or if it’s just a local issue.
- Guide to rewiring internal UK phone wiring.
- Binary code translator – Translate text to/from binary.
- Morse code translator – Translate text to/from morse code.
- ChkFlsh – Handy utility for checking flash drives for errors (via Andrew Dugdell).
- NVSPCRUB – A tool for removing Hyper-V Virtual Networking Configuration from the parent partition – especially useful in Server Core environments when the Hyper-V UI may not be available (via Tim Anderson).
The Measurement Lab Tools is awesome. Thanks!

Thanks for the link to the internal rewiring article…really useful.
Its just saved me half an hour trying to explain to someone over the phone where they were going wrong!!
Glad the links helped you out guys!
Nice list. I really enjoyed the Guide to rewiring internal UK phone wiring. Great catch
Hi Mark,
Microsoft Volume Licensing Briefs, Rainbow Folders, and NVSPCRUB are not working.
You may want to replace/remove them.
Thanks
Thanks, but this is a ten-year-old blog post… the Internet moves on but blogs represent a point in time.
